A sprinter feels cramps and pain in the thigh muscles after a run. This is due to the accumulation of
General KnowledgeBiology
- Alactic acid
- BCO2
- Cpyruvic acid
- Dethanols
Explanation
During intense sprinting, muscles respire anaerobically because oxygen supply lags demand; glucose is broken down to pyruvate and then reduced to lactic acid. Accumulation of lactic acid lowers muscle pH and causes cramps, fatigue and pain in the thigh muscles. CO2, pyruvic acid and ethanol are not the cause of post-exercise muscle cramps.
