A beam of positively charged particles, say A, is going from north to south. On the other hand, a beam of negatively charged particles, say B, is going from south to north. Which one of the following in this respect is correct?
general-sciencephysics-light-electricity
- AB is deflected towards A.
- BB is deflected away from A.
- CB is deflected upwards.
- DB is deflected downwards.
Explanation
Beam A (positive charges moving south) is a conventional current flowing south. Beam B (negative charges moving north) is likewise a conventional current flowing south, since current is opposite to negative-charge motion. Two parallel currents in the same direction attract each other magnetically. Hence beam B is deflected towards beam A.
