7 words

Main Body

Out of the total installed solar capacity of ~ 82 GW, roughly 67 GW is large solar and ~ 15 GW is rooftop installed, while the target was of 40 GW rooftop by 2022. Factors behind poor adoption: (1) Political factors: Different regulations in different states hindering adoption e.g. Haryana & Gujarat pro-rooftop (2) Social attitudes toward rooftop: Lack of awareness on subsidies, pricing, etc. (3) Economic cost of installation high - Upto ₹ 2 lakh for installation

4Environmental: Shortened life of solar panels due to increasing temperatures (5) Geopolitical factors: Import dependence on China for solar cells and associated price rise due to conflict Potential of PM Suryaghar Yojana: (1) Free installation will increase adoption - Already over 3 million registrations (2) Facility of supplying excess to grid will provide income source to users (3) Govt approved players will ensure trust on suppliers (4) Govt push will promote R&D leading to more efficient & cheaper solar cells
5Will bring investment and help reduce dependence on China - Release setting up manufacturing in Jamnapar Challenges in urban bids in scheme: - Cost of MRO on users - Potential inclusion-exclusion errors - Lack of skilled installation workers - threat of disasters like fire/electrocution in Hissar, Haryana
