Difference from Trademark: (1) GI powers on geographical localization as a specific feature for uniqueness (2) Trademark is necessarily located in trade related matters. (3) GI tag is used to promote the product, the location and also the culture. (4) Trademark is linked with the manufacturing company. (5) The mechanism of production is inherent in the trademark as a symbol of uniqueness for the company. GI tag highlights the uniqueness due to geographical location. Tacking GI Infringement: (1) Copying of different place if other than the place where it is actually produced. (2) Infringement of the uniqueness of the product is through copying the mechanism. (3) Counterfeit products similar looking as the GI product. (4) Corporate law of IP regime protects the GI tagged products being lifted by other entities Thus, despite challenged of infringement and to year embargo for renewal, the GI tag products have been promoted through One district One product to show the rich cultural depth of the country.
