Need to protect wetlands: Kidneys of ecosystems (Purity water and reduce water pollution at lakes, rivers); Act as carbon sequestrator sources (1/3 of land but 90% of carbon in terrestrial system); Biodiversity (Water birds in Chilka, Pallicat); Need to conserve wetlands; Increasing invasive species in wetlands; Encroachment for agriculture (Paddy fields); Consideration of wetlands as wastelands (ADB/World issue).
