India is the 3rd largest producer of fish and second largest aquaculture country, as per Economic Survey 2021. Critical role of fisheries sector for development of coastal areas: (1) Provide employment to people, especially as agriculture in coastal areas is not well developed due to saline ingestion in soil. (2) 11% of agriculture experts from India are marine fisheries, thus boosting income. (3) Processing and packaging of fish employs many people. (4) Development of fishing harbours (Budget 2021)
