Aquaculture refers to growing an overarching term for fisheries and other product obtained from inland waters as well as sea. Nutrition Security: 1) cod livers oil one of the best source of vitamin D which is absent in most of the food. 2) Fish provides necessary protein for balanced diet. 3) stable diet in coastal area like West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh (essential for south). Livelihood Generation: 1) Provides livelihood to a large number of coastal people. Economic: 1) India is 2nd largest producer of fisheries. 2) 2nd largest freshwater producer. 3) 2nd largest exporter. 2) In last 9 years production of fisheries have doubled hence multiplying economy. Blue Economy (Chennai Declaration) is for sustainable aquaculture. NISHTI programme for better, efficient and sustainable shoring cultivation. Besides, inland fisheries along with fowl cultivation are being promoted. Hence, with its large shoreline with and better policy India is poised to become leaders in aquaculture.
