Desertification refers to decreased biological productivity of land which may sometimes lead to conversion of land into desert. Challenges of desertification: 1. Loss of land, reduces pressure on rest of land as India has low population & only 1st land creates a vicious cycle of desertification. 2. Threat to food security of nation. 3. Loss of private, increased deforestation may result into fields applying justice table, eradicate harmful. 4. Reduced soil fertility increases economic cost of fertilizers, etc.

Effect of climate change on desertification: 1. Erratic weather patterns has caused floods & droughts at some. This exacerbates desertification. 2. Sea level rise, glacier melt is submerging land on waste and its desertification for coasts. 3. Increased global temperature has added to scorched heat at deserts & posts increased desertification. India is signatory to United Nations convention to combat desertification that aims to eradicate desertification by 2030. While desertification is issue, we must look at climate change as whole & take steps accordingly.
