How is the rapid growth of the food processing industry leading to food safety challenges in India?

The food industry is growing at higher of 8-2.1% and contributed 1.8% to Indian GVA economy (with Aayog). Rapid Growth of FPI Industry (1) Increasing annually at high growth-doubled since 2005. (2) Government schemes: Aided growth & formulation - eg PMKSY (3) Better linkages: b2b upstream & downstream sectors adding to rapid growth. Eg Supply chain, cold storage Leading to Food Safety Challenge (1) Poor Quality: Due to lack of standardization and poor quality check. (2) Poor contamination check (3) Low Value Added: Due to token FPI processing (4) Harmful Products: Like Vanaspati Ghee creating health issues for young population (India has 102 million pre-diabetic people) (5) Poor Standards: in food safety & poor enforcement by FSSAI creating huge challenge. Eg Nestlé adds sugar to baby food (6) Physio-Sanitary Measures: Rigid Indian Food & late sold in domestic market - strict standards, Study - strict enforcement, Good schemes. Eg FSSAI Eat Right Movement. FPI industry must be incentivized to contribute to Healthy India & attain SDG-2 (Zero Hunger) target
