Due to lack of formal credit, rural and unbanked population are live at the mercy of informal lender, leading to their exploitation. BSC: Farmers getting loan from middle-men Anabatra. Primary causes of limited formal credit penetration :- (1) Lack of willingness of banks to open branches in rural areas due to non profitability . (2) Lack of staff willing to work in rural region (3) Bank focusing on profits (majorly urban sectors) (4) Rural people are unaware of the paperwork required inner oft for formal audit . (5) Prevalence of illiteracy among people to opt for online banking, take direct money etc . Govt. of rural came up with various schemes to solve the problem like - Proudly Heavy lending, Lead Bank Initiative, Bank Mitra /Dhubduam Small Finance Bank, Nabard etc .

(6) Issue debit cards and credit cards to rural people . Challenges :- (1) Banks are unprofit able and gun pse tally to loan default . (2) Rising loan WPAs from rural areas often requiring talli support / bailout . Vax: Farm Loan waivers.
