Main Body
Over the years North-East has witnessed 70% reduction in deaths and extremist incidents. However Manipur violence and instances of higher drugs trade call for deeper understanding and measures. Multiple factors leading to North-East Extremism: 1) Historical Neglect: Neglect and lack of connectivity with north-eastern states. 2) Poor industrial growth - Lack of employment and job opportunities. 3) Porous border - 98% bordered with other countries. Illegal migration from Bangladesh, Myanmar. 4) Instability in neighbouring - Coup in Myanmar and domestic issues in Bangladesh. 5) Multi ethnic solvat - Kuki, Naga tribes in Manipur. 6) Availability of weapons with extremist groups. 7) Drugs track - Border with Death Triangle (Myanmar hotspot for drugs). 8) China factor - China support to North-East insurgents through fund and weapon.
Thus these strategies need to be implemented for North-East to act as gateway for ALL South Asian policy and intra-regional peace in region.
