Hydrogen based energy production can play a key role in a clean, secure and affordable energy future. In this context, identify the potential and opportunities for utilising hydrogen based technologies. What are the challenges that need to be addressed to fulfill the potential?
Main Body
PM Modi in his Independence Day Speech mentioned the launching of Green Hydrogen Mission for ensuring renewable energy security of India. H₂O -UV-> electrolysis -> H₂ Fuel O₂ Potential & Opportunities for Hydrogen Based Tech: India's total energy demand is around 57.5 GW of which 40% is met through non renewable energy. Hydrogen based technology can prove
to be useful in increasing this share. By India produces hydrogen which can be used in the rocket fuel for India's space program By Hydrogen based technology has huge prospects in Hydrogen Hybrid/Flex Fuel vehicles By Hydrogen can be used in fuel cell vehicle give a constant source of non polluting energy. By Hydrogen fission can replace Nuclear fission reactors Challenges Associated: 1. TECHNOLOGY - technology to extract hydrogen efficiency is still at infant stage 2. STORAGE - hydrogen being an inflammable liquid is difficult
to store. RESEARCH ADOPTION & RECISTANCE: the currently running energy cycles would be resistant to transition from oil based source to Hydrogen. Hydrogen is produced from electrolysis which in turn requires some input energy. Hydrogen based technology holds the key to future's clean and sustainable energy provided the impediments in research & development are ironed timely.
