Mega Food Parks (MFPs) were considered to be a gamechanger for the food processing sector in India, but their progress remains stunted. Discuss.
Main Body
Mega Food Parks were envisioned as the model at which all the food processing supply chains converged and they faced roadblock to packaged food into the market. FPI supply chain with primary farmers, secondary processing units, PPE, CRE, dairy, and Mega Food Parks all connected to the market.
Reasons for their stunting: Lack of investment, Lack of agricultural produce, The farmer producer organization which were to play a crucial role are not taking off, Structural bottlenecks in the supply chain. The schemes like KISAN SAMPADA and Top to total have benefitted the FPI industry but their proper execution is still needed.
