What are the impediments in disposing the huge quantity of e-waste being generated in India? Bring out ways to ensure timely and safe recycling of e-waste.

India is 3rd largest e-waste generator after being USA according to Global E-Waste Monitor 2020. Only about 20% is recycled in India.

The major impediments in disposing the huge quantity of e-waste generated in India: 1) Lack of dedicated & global e-collection chain: Only 15% e-waste is collected along a nest of the waste, rest all collected by informal sector waste, rest all collected by informal sector waste, rest all u collected by informal workers, using hazardous methods such as open incinerations, of acid leaching. 2) Lack of Infrastructure: At present 8 Central Pollution Control Board CPCB only has total recycling capacity of only 400 tonnes of e-waste which is insufficient for the amount of waste generated in our countries. Limited coverage: E-Waste Management Rules 2016 covered only types of electrical & electronic equipment. More than 100 types are instructed in the amended of 2022. 3) Limited involvement of Urban local bodies: E-waste does not fall in the list of garbage to be collected by muns of parties. Thus there is no mandate for necessary parties, to collect it. NGOs & organizations to collect it must fill the prescribed collection gap.

4Lack of awareness & financial incentives: Most consumers have no awareness about reckless disposal of e-waste generated. Most are not aware about prices for various e-waste components. Few financial member to supporting disposing of their e-waste. Various measures can be adopted for timely & safe recycling of e-wastes such as: 1) Separate department in urban local bodies: e-waste generated in urban areas these ULBs should be made 'mandate for this'. 2) Market information about E-waste Prices: The prices should be widely publicized among urban consumers to create a powerful market signal for E customers to sell it to keep clear. 3) Strengthen unorganized sector: Import schemes for incentivizing small scale, informal e-waste recycling centres to upgrade the dittias so that they comply & environmental & safety regulations. 4) Lessons from developed countries: In EU rules were set up in 1990s yet in FYA 'Rules were set up in 1990s, yet in FYA only 48% of e-waste is recycled, thus India should prioritise on incentivising the eco customers to recycle their e-waste,
5Setting up of Repair & Reuse Cafe: repair centres to be set up to extend the life of electronic appliances. 6) Inducing producers to design while keeping recycling in mind: They making the sourced recycled easily, adds brand value. 7) Learning from Egypt- E-waste app: App to ensure recycling & monetizing by offering coupons for new e-waste. Even India's genuine economy, it is quite obvious that if e-waste generate in future will go up many folds, so we should step up our recycling plans to ensure effective e-waste recycling happens.
