Food security refers to a condition where food is available, affordable and accessible to every section of society and has the following dimensions: (1) Calorie security: Calorie input should be fulfilled vis-a-vis 2000 kcal/day demand. (2) Nutrition security: balanced diet RDI is to avoid 'hidden hunger' (i.e. lack of vitamins & minerals) (3) Quality of food: is not just quantity but quality of food should also be ensured. Esp low quality meals served in mid-day meal. (4) Consistency in availability, affordability & accessibility & not just sporadic availability for food distribution during election campaign.
