Main Body
India due to its large pharmaceutical industry is known as 'Pharma Capital of the World'. Role of Technology in Drug Development: (1) Promotes new solution for drug development eg mRNA vaccine for COVID-19. (2) Incubated Innovation thus more efficient produce eg growth hormone using genetic engineering. (3) Easy testing through artificial tissue development (reduce animal dependence). (4) New drugs combination under Fixed Dose Combination can be explored. (5) Generic Medicines can be developed. Role of technology in drug manufacturing: (1) By focusing on Active Pharmaceutical-cal indicators (As India imports 90% of API from China). (2) By providing boost to pharma sector under PLI scheme. (3) Streamline the manufacturing process by digitization. (4) Enhance productivity for ex PCR ie Polymerase Chain Reaction can boost manufacturing. By this, goal of SDG3 (health for all) and 'Swatch Bharat, Samridh Bharat' can be achieved.
