Eg: CPI - 6 includes all prices as a major ingredient. Fragmented landholding leads to reduced production. Poor coverage under MSP scheme. Eg: Leads to produce of monoecropping. Lower yields of edible oil. Eg: Andaman and nicobar east has potential. Efforts to tackle import-dependency: National Mission on edible - oil and oil palms. To increase productivity of edible oil in the country. Increasing procurement under PCP regime. Inclusion in PDS supplying farmers to shift focus. Surveying of agricultural land in north east to identify best areas to grow. India needs to adopt a multi-pronged approach to safeguard its edible oil security.
