Anticyclonic circulations refer to clockwise gyres of the gradient winds, rotating along a high pressure centre, marked by ground level divergence of air. Characteristics of Anticyclonic gyres (1) Mechanical sinking of air due to upper level convergence and plation of air. (2) Air movement is clockwise in northern hemisphere and anti-clockwise in southern hemisphere marked by atmospheric stability due to columnsic compaction and adiabatic heating. (3) Produces rainlessness, windlessness, inversion of temperature etc.
