Recent controversies over alleged malpractices in the electoral rolls have renewed demands for the mandatory linkage of Aadhaar with Voter ID. What is your opinion? Give reasons in support of your answer.

Mandatory Aadhaar linkage with Voter ID Benefits: (1) Since Aadhaar acts as unique identifier (16 digit Aadhaar number), inclusion across of dual entry can be tackled. (2) Aadhaar card can check support in verifying exclusion errors. (3) UIDAI & technological advances and infrastructure can be shared with ECI for interoperability.

However, limitations arise -> (1) Exclusion & Inclusion errors in Aadhaar database exist [Sean Diaz] (2) Reduces trust in officiating of ECI (3) Lack of robust data protection framework as DPA Act 2023 not implemented yet. (4) Fraudulent Aadhaar IDs exist as confirmed by independent audits (5) Rejection of access due to faulty machinery/fingerprints -> problems at polling both Measures => digital electoral roll availability for audits. Completion by ECI with/broad to regain that. Genuine electoral democracy is safeguarded only when the election watchdog is absolutely accountable
