Open scan (p.16)

Main Body

With the force of modernisation and globalisation, an evident shift is seen in terms of conscious consumption to compulsive consumption, evoking affecting familial dynamics. Affect on family structure & dynamics: 1) Materialisation of happiness ⟹ less bonding and love towards family, being replaced by material consumption for fulfilment. 2) Compulsive consumption has become the role mean for family gatherings and activities. eg: Going to restaurants for family meals. 3) Replacement of emotional bonds with material bonds eg: parents gifting i-phone to kids to compensate for not

spending time. 4) Degradation of joint-family sustainability ethos. eg: joint families were connected to nature and ethos. less seen in urban nuclear families. Thus, in order to avoid the degradation of familial bonding, there is a need to replace material culture with human interaction and rejuvenation of familial dynamics.
