Discuss the concept of healthy active ageing in the context of demographic shifts in India. How does it contribute to social inclusion?
Main Body
Population ageing is a consequential phenomena of demographic dividend, with nearly 20% of India's population being 60+ by 2050. Healthy Active Ageing vis-à-vis Demographic Divided: 1) Demographic dividend will be followed by ageing of population that will require: 2) Social security of the elderly, with appropriate and inclusive pension policies. eg: National Pension Scheme. 3) Healthcare ⟹ to tackle cardio-metabolic diseases and ensure active senior citizen literacy. eg: Rashtriya Vayoshti Yojana. 4) Trapping the economic and emotional intelligence of elderly ⟹ ensure less liability and increased productivity.
Social inclusion by healthy active ageing: 1) Reduction of poverty in old age by ensuring social security at present. 2) Targeted healthcare will improve and elongate health and proactive capacity. 3) Reduce gender-specific discriminations i.e. increasing proportion of females in senior citizen age-group eg: Vridhavasn Yojana. 4) Equality in senior citizen across the rural urban landscape eg: PM-Maandhan Yojana ⟹ targets pension for rural farmers. Therefore, there is a need to amp up parallel policy making for reaping the benefits of demographic divided and ensuring future healthy and active elderly population.
