A civil servant often has to hear the voice of their conscience, as it provides a distinction between right and wrong. Acts of Conscience: It refers to the actions committed by following the inner voice of justice, which is the basis for evaluation of our moral dealings Rousseau. Acts of conscience helps to avoid guilt, remorse and indicates highest order of moral consistency. Example: An IAS officer Awanench Charan was aware of the problems of healthcare in a Bhal district. Despite shortage of funds, he used his own savings to start 'Bike ambulances' called 'cargo express' to deliver free healthcare. Basis for Acts of Conscience: 1) Strong Moral Attitude ⇒ Moral courage, standards and ethical learnings should be strong. 2) Ability to deal with stress and negative conscience ⇒ Fortitude for standing opposition. 3) Conscientiousness ⇒ Value-based uprightness in character. 4) Healthy Virtues ⇒ Internal imperatives to display right behaviour.
