Do you think values such as "tyaga," (renunciation) "seva," (service) "daanam," (Charity) "damah," (self-control) that are espoused in traditional Indian Wisdom have relevance for modern-day public servants? Why? Why not?

Values are long lasting beliefs that an individual holds as true. Values like tyaga, seva, daanam and damah are relevant in modern day public service. [Relevance of these values] - (1) Tyaga renunciation or sacrifice - (1) It refers to sacrificing one's interest to greater good. eg Satyendra Bakshi sacrificed life for society (2) promotes value of apigrah i.e non-accumulation => faith in achieving goal of Art.39b & c (3) Seva service - (1) selfless service to society is cardinal to public service. eg Swami Vivekananda, Mother Teresa etc (2) promotes welfare of all - eg Amma Unaiyans scheme of T.N. govt - free meals to poor.

In my opinion, companies indulging in social responsibilities is not anti-ethical to their core interests & production responsibilities as - (1) they garner social trust which benefits their economic interests (e.g. TATA, Infosys etc.) As per Gandhi ji, Commerce without morality is a sin. So businesses need to balance their economic interests with social responsibilities.
