Fundamental Duties were not thought needed, but after the recommendation of the Ewaran Singh Committee under the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act.

They were supposed by the state USSR that called upon its citizens to take up responsibility of state on progess with the following ideals: a Citizenship is an active process (not just the enjoyment of rights). a One can enjoy rights but also must adhere to duties. c A reminder to respect the nation and its people eg: national anthem, national flag, respect for women, brotherhood.
