Recently demand has been rising in a state regarding the enactment of Social Accountability Law. How such a law can lead to good governance and boost citizens' participation in decision-making? Comment.

Social accountability is a good governance tool in which common public and citizens ensure answerability of those in power and seek their grievances redressal. Currently, social accountability is practiced in ad-hoc manner with different provision from state to state. Eg: social audit for MGNREGA or citizens' plan participation under Gram Swaraj model are Citizens charter— Importance of law bz It will create uniform framework of social accountability tools bz Create base rule awareness among common public bz Provide legal basis to grievance redressal bz Address loopholes in current social accountability methods bz Lead to consensus-oriented and participative governance Thus Parliament should come up with a law that provides a dedicated framework for social accountability measures towards ethical governance.
