Discuss the significance of the POCSO Act in ensuring the safety and protection of children against sexual offences. What changes would you suggest to the present Act to enhance its effective implementation?

POCSO is a gender neutral act to save children from sexual offences and has strict provisions to uphold dignity of a child. POCSO - provisions: (1) Onus of proof lies on perpetrator, (2) defines sexually inappropriate acts - vis penetrative and non-penetrative, (3) Any elder person who knew about the act is also liable to get punished, (4) child friendly courts to investigate the cases are mandated, (5) Fast track courts with little damage to child's psyche are mandated, (6) it is Gender-neutral.

Significance is ensuring safety: (1) Need of the hour due to rising cases of paedophiles, (2) Access to child porn, has enhanced such cases so stringent get prevents such acts, (3) have led to large scale convictions, (4) ensures deterrence from commencing such horrendable crimes, (5) Gender neutrality - prevents sexual abuse boys and LGBTW kids as well, (6) Onus of prof not at child - leads to proper growth of child without much trauma. (7) Any confidante knowing about it is also punished. But recent cases of misuse have crept in: (1) Rape cases are a romantic affair, (2) Misuse by fighting neighbours.
