NCW was created by National Commission for Women act of 1990 giving it statutory status. Crucial role played: (1) Monitoring: the implementing of Constitutional & legal measures for welfare of women for eg: Article 15(3), Domestic Violence act etc. (2) Inquire: into the complaints of violation of women's rights eg: Kathina rape case. (3) Research: related to policy making for welfare of women
