The office of CBI has forced certifying challenge primarily due to concerns about its autonomy, handling of controversial cases, and susceptibility to external influence. Discuss its credibility & effectiveness.
Main Body
CBI derives its power from Delhi police establishment act 1946. Credibility & challenges: (1) Independence: As it is appointed by central government which can affect the appointment process. (2) Political interference: Ruling party exercise influence for eg: harassing opposition member. (3) Supreme Court: has said CBI as caged parrot speaking in master's voice. (4) Lack of proper infrastructure.
Conclusion
CBI being a non-statutory body should be regulated by new law & should be made statutory body by giving it more powers as specified by 2nd APC.
