President has assigned following duties on AGI: (1) Appeal on behalf of Government in all cases in Supreme Court of India. (2) Appear in High Courts for the Government. Despite the above powers AGI has many limitations: Not to advise against GoI. Not to hold brief against AGI in cases he is supposed to represent GoI. Not to defend accused in criminal prosecution without govt. approval. Not to accept appointment as director in any company without GoI permission. Unless a reference is made in that respect, AGI can not advise any ministry department, PSUs of GOT.

Conclusion
