According to data given by National crime Records bureau, there are 67% of undertrials in Indian prisons. Reasons for undertrial: Issues in Police and Judiciary: (1) Poor Investigation: Police are not trained for investigation but for law and order. (2) Vacancy in police: India has 133 police per 100,000 population while UN has recommended 232/1 lakhs. (3) Bail amount: Around a Majority of undertrials are poor. They can't afford bail amount. (4) Poor awareness about laws: Poor people with no understanding of complexities of laws.

5Lacunae in law implementatiya: F. For and 'vague wording' in laws gives wide discretion to executive, e.g. Archai Laws like IPC, CrPC. (6) Huge pendency of case: 9.7 crore cases are pending according to NJDG. (7) Vacancy in judiciary: around 27% in High court and 25% in Subordinate Courts CNTDG. (8) Slow functioning of police and judiciary. (9) Lack of Infrastructure in judiciary. (10) Not employing online dispute resolution mechanism and Alternate dispute resolution effectively. (11) Corruption in police: only such who can bribe officials get justice. Corrective Measures: Reforming criminal justice system: (1) Supreme Court in Prakash Singh Case 2006 gave guidelines to reform police system. It should
