Discuss the alternatives to the current collegium system for appointing judges in India.

Alternatives to the Current System: (1) NJAC: Erstwhile NJAC could be revived with reformed terms after Consultation with all stakeholders including judiciary. (2) Reform in collegium system: In the present system no member of Government is represented in Collegium. (3) Transparency: Minutes of meeting of collegium system should be made public. (4) Time bound decision: Both judiciary and government should specify a time limit to take decision. Appointment of judges should not affect the independence of judiciary. Each organ of government should have say in appointment and above alternatives could be employed for the same.
