Dispute redressal is the most important component of cooperative federalism. How does the Interstate Council facilitate the resolution of disputes related to states in India, and what are the challenges associated with this process?

A federal structure is bound to face disputes among states as well as with Union. Separation of powers automatically leads to confrontations. Cooperation among units through adequate means/avenues is necessary for democratic functioning of the country. Inter-state council under Article 262 provides a platform for dispute redressal: 1) States come together to discuss confrontation issues without involving judiciary -> saves time, acceptable solutions, solutions driven by people.
