42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976 added words 'socialist' and 'secular' in Indian preamble. Socialist meaning: => Resources of the state shall be owned by government on behalf of the citizens. => Welfare nature of state: DPSP. Art.38: welfare of citizens Art.39a: adequate mean of livelihood. Art.39b: ownership and control of community resources for greater good of all => Mixed economy: existence of both public and private sector. Secular meaning: (1) Art 25-28: Federal right to practice, preach, propagate any religion. (2) Equal protection of all religions and equal promotion. (3) No discrimination based on religion (Art 15, 19) (4) No use of religion in election campaigns (RPA, 1951) (5) Positive intervention of state in religion matter. eg Article 25 (2): Premedia based on public health and order.
