As per census 2011, 8-67% population is above 60 years age which as per some estimate will become 167% by 2041. This highlights the imperative of mainstreaming geriatric care. Challenges faced by elderlies in India - 1) Isolation - elderlies at times feel neglected and with emergence of nuclear families further getting isolated. 2) Loss of partner - it leads to an emotional & psychological shock for elderly where they require most the support of their children. 3) Violence - Moral corruption in society has gone down to the extent that even elderly people often get victim of violence. 4) Lack of financial security - lack social security measures, and rely on other.

5Lack of proper medical care - 6) Social stigma - associated with elderlies further perpetuate their isolation and neglection. 7) Mental health issue - as per LASI survey 2017, elderly face mental health issue which as per Agewell foundation goes to 40%. 8) Digital exclusion - at a phase item feel less valued. The most significant challenge being lack of proper geriatric care needs to be mainstreamed. D) Policy priority - geriatric care should be made a priority in policy making eg- inclusion of elderly in Ayushman Bharat Yojana. 2) Right to health for elderly - to ensure free & accessible healthcare. 3) Elderly specific schemes - to help them support financially as- M India Gandhi Eldery Lanma scheme. 4) Investment in infrastructure - to develop specific old-age healthcare & policies. By investing in elderly healthcare, healthy and active aging of elderly can be ensured which will not help reap benefits of silver dividend but also bolster labels global image.
