The Constitution of India under Article 80 provided for Delimitation Commission to be established after every Census to uphold the principles of fair representation as along with one vote one value. However, due to divergence in population growth between North and South states, the delimitation exercise was frozen till 2026. Challenges posed by mis-representation in constituencies: (1) It violates the established democratic principle of one vote value one value. (2) Impacts financial devolution: Finance Commission under Article 280 uses population as a key criteria to devolve funds by misrepresentation stews devolution. Large population followed by under development in some regions may give fuel to regionalism and separatist tendencies.

All stakeholders need to be involved in a constructive discussion to address the impending issues.
