Secularism is an ideology that calls for separation of State from Religion. Idea of secularism in the Indian constitution: (1) In India, Article 25 to 28 lay the foundation of secular state (2) Article 11S and 16: States there can be no discrimination on grounds of religion. (3) Therefore, state has no official religion in India, i.e state is separate from religion. (4) However, in India we follow idea of principled distance. (5) Article 25 allows religious denominations to manage their own affairs. (6) Article 27 prohibits state from charging any tax to promote religion on any particular religion. How Indian Secularism is encapsulated in the broader concept of equality: (1) Indian secularism is based on the idea of inter-religious as well as intra-religious equality (2) For intra-religious equality, Article 15 and 16, clearly specify non-discrimination on grounds of religion. (3) To ensure intra-secular equality, Article 25 and 26 allow for state guided reform of religion.
