This is due to over extraction for meeting irrigation needs.

2Deforestation for extracting goods such as timber, etc. (3) Encroachment of wetlands for human settlement leads to issue like urban flooding and loss of biodiversity. (4) Anthropogenic emission of greenhouse gases due to intensification of paddy cultivation, vehicular emission etc. (5) Threat of rising sea level is a threat to small island developing states.
