The arrival of Lord William Bentinck in the second half of 1820s in India is indeed a significant event. (1) The English East India Company lost its monopoly over trade in India completely in 1833. (2) The presidency of Bombay and Madras was completely surogated in matter of legislation under Governor-General of India.
