Challenges that limit cooperatives from realizing their potential: 1. Lack of representation; many of the cooperatives that are functioning in rural development do not include people from marginalized community. 2. Regional instances; mostly located in urban and well-to-do areas. 3. Lack of training to the cooperatives enrolled to growth of them and utilize their potential. 4. Lack of benevolent support; also arises as a hurdle, as small cooperatives regulate handling from agents to junction. 5. Financial crunch – access to finance is a prime. 6. Poor finance management. Measures to unlock the potential of cooperatives for rural development: 1. Formalization of cooperatives by registering them on platform. Eg., scheme for formalization of mini-food processing enterprise. 2. Access to funds – eg. NABARD's linkage and credit enablement programmes. 3. Financial Management – eg. Prajadarlische scheme to help in managing the account books. 4. Higher participation of women through their capacity building. 5. Cooperatives for diversification of agriculture eg. promoting poultry, beekeeping, etc. 6. Micro finance institution for credit to farming. Way forward: Cooperatives have the potential to achieve the growth & development of the laundry, and move towards Atmanirbhar.
