SCO is seen as a major coordinating and balancing force in the region; however, its position is increasingly challenged by internal contradictions and divergences. In this context, critically evaluate the role of SCO in advancing India's interests.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization with membership of more than 15 countries having combined GDP over 30%, acts as one major balancing force in the region, where world's 3 major poles directed (Russia, China, India). Position of SCO being challenged by internal contradictions and divergences: (1) India-China, India-Pakistan bilateral conflicts become unaligned at common lowest. For instance, upon didn't support Pakistan initiatives at bilateral, while India didn't support BIMSTEC at JCO platform. (2) Different economic growth models, China-market capitalism, India-mixed liberal economy, Middle-constitutional controlled economy, irrespective coordination at economic front.

Challenges for India in SCO: (1) Managing partnership and navigating through SCO dynamics will be challenging for India as lead Arab are from both member of SCO. (2) Potential nexus being built by Pakistan and China against India to build a reactive at SCO platform. However, India's stance for multipolarity and engaging countries with strategic autonomy, will give India advantage to leverage the platform of SCO to secure its national interest.
