Industry and business groups are societal bodies that are representative of business motives of a group industry. FICC1, ASOCHAM etc Contribution to socioeconomic development: (1) Demand based - they have ubiquitous centric mindset & put forward their opinions to govt. @ APEDA, MEPDA (2) Advocate for market reforms - thus, reducing govt control of industriesa level playing field & CDPB @ KMIC - for khadi promotion (3) Research & Analysis of industries - help smaller players @ FICCI study (4) Deal and put forward demands to budget department - post budget meeting with ministers in c ASOCHAM (5) Agenda for development - as it will increase consumerism & subsequent development CSR Initiatives Challenges: (1) Profit by profit motive - not social justice (2) Technology advocacy - could lead to displacement of labour (3) At times, join less regard to society people & environment planet @ FICC - expart (4) Narrow interests of specific industries interest (5) Lobby groups to influence political decisions - backdoor democracy (6) At times at loggerheads with labour unions Thus, reforms needed to promote ideals of social justice by better regulation of these government
