India-EU Bilateral partnership offers huge potential in terms of security, technology, economy, energy security and multilateral cooperation. Potential of India-EU partnership: 1. Economic Ties:EU is India's largest leading partner.Major source of FDI. 2. Defence:Cooperation in Indian Ocean Region.French Liaison officer at IFC - Gurugram.
3. Cooperation in science & technology, such as space, physics CERN, 5G and data production. 4. Convergence on issues such as:Chinese economic aggression.Rules-based Indo-Pacific.India can be a huge market. However, it remains unrealised due to: • deadlock over India-EU FTA. • India's strategic silence over Russian invasion of Ukraine. • EU's dependence on Chinese market and manufacturing. • BREXIT (UK was India's gateway to EU).
EU's regular show of concern for human rights violation in Kashmir, but silence over cross-border Terrorism. • bureaucratic delays EU → India focusing more on bilateral relationships (eg with France, Netherlands) • Geographic distance & linguistic barriers - compared to both very each other Anglosphere primarily in economic terms → weak security, military cooperation.
