POCSO Act, 2012 was introduced to protect children from sexual abuse, violence, verbal and physical abuse. Intended Objectives (1) Deterrence against child abuse and violence for age below 12 years (2) Composition of fast track - Juvenile courts for such cases (3) Punishment of perpetrators to terrorise in (4) Constitution of child welfare committee to rehabilitate and support child who has been abused Falls short of objectives (1) Crime against girl child still high NCRB - 30% child rapes by Haryana gang rape (2) Low deterrence due to low awareness
