In recent years, use of social media and digital mobilisation by civil society has emerged as a powerful form of pressure politics. Examine its impact on policymaking and democratic accountability.

Civil society is a group or association of people with ALI as another pillar of democracy. It has crucial role in policy making by deepening participatory governance. Use of social media and digital mobilisation: (1) Wider range of outreach via social media accounts such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. (2) Fund mobilisation using innovative means such as Milaap crowdfunding. (3) Wider solidarity and networking. (4) Metro campaign by women groups. (5) Information dissemination and key inputs on ADR data on criminalized.

Impact on policy making and democratic accountability: (1) Criminal law amendment due to uproar on social media during Nirbhaya case. (2) Repeal of farm laws due to online mobilisation of support from various as well as international bodies. (3) Advocacy for women empowerment and Nari Shakti Adhikaram.
