Main Body

National Commission for Women (NCW) established in 1992 after the enactment of National Commission for Women Act, 1990.

It is presently headed by Rekha Sharma (Chairperson)

Composition:

5 members nominated by central govt
3 serving from State (out of which 1 council)
5 of Council (Nominated)
1 member from civil society council

Functions:

1Financial assistance to NGOs such as grants, funding to implement
2Present a support annual report to Central Government on the condition of women
3Brings care to against women to the attention of government such as grievances care, public hearings care, parking medicine care etc.
4Warding for the welfare and empowerment needs of women by providing them with certain relief, disputes in rescuing goods, skilled based placement
