Despite India having a large land boundary, it lacks in cross-border trade and connectivity. Reimagining cross-border connectivity: (1) North-Western Border: Promotion of connectivity with Afghanistan through Chabahar port and Jalezy-Delaram highway. (2) Trilateral highway and multimodal connectivity projects through BBIN with Thailand, Myanmar etc. (3) Central Asia connectivity through Ashgabat agreement, International

North-South Transborder Corridor (INSTC). (4) Bangladesh: promotion of sailing links (Czarskala-Ashana belt), seamless border crossing etc. Issues: (1) Cross-border terrorism has stopped any cross border connectivity through Pakistan. (2) Difficult terrain due Himalayas, tropical forest etc in North-Eastern Region. (3) Regulatory clearance such as recent Supreme Court case over Himalayan roads. (4) Illegal migration of supplies leads to loss of trust among border population.

Way Forward:Promote sustainable linkages with employment generation and skill up-gradation via local population.Seamless border checkpoint with single window customs clearance.Signing under lateral aid bilateral trade agreements with neighboring countries to et enhance trade links.Cooperation between security agencies for cross border terrorism @ : India-Myanmar agreement. Cross-border connectivity in South Asia will enable India to promote its union of 'Cikka Sakti, Cikka Vikas' globally aligning it with Vander Kumthomakan.
