Recent controversies over alleged malpractices in the electoral rolls have renewed demands for the mandatory linkage of Aadhaar with Voter ID. What is your opinion? Give reasons in support of your answer.

Secular Commission of India introduced Aadhaar linkage with VOTER ID as mandatory to evade dual disqualification and secure electoral rolls and enhancing electoral integrity.

Precise of Aadhaar linkage:

(i) counter inclusion and exclusion errors

(ii) serious allegation made by leader of opposition is state-level

(iii) crust duplication and assure electoral rolls - keeping electoral pocket codes also

(iv) Digitalization of process procuring smooth access to the users and voters

(v) ECT website

(vi) ITR like exercise in state Assembly elections

(vii) other elections.

Demerits of linkage:

(i) Supreme Court argued that Aadhaar should not be used in any other scheme than welfare.

(ii) Aadhaar Card is not the proof of citizenship.- Fake Aadhaar Cards being caught by UIDAI.

(iii) Lack of focus and awareness among masses with only 38% digitally literate to insure inclusion rules.

(iv) Political Nature of issue - used on Bangladesh illegal migrants getting Aadhaar card.

(v) Aadhaar card and address can be changed - leading to confusion.

Therefore, there is a need for a balanced approach:

(i) While Aadhaar linkage is a positive step,

inclusive lists are genuine. ECT charter curtain cited lists.

(ii) ITR like exercise in state Assembly elections

(iii) other elections.

(iv) Preventive Disclosure by ECT in any inclusion and exclusion error for gaining public trust.

Thus the electoral roll is not just piece of paper, it is the right of common voter and future of ordinary citizen. To ameliorate should be maintained at all cost.
