The various debates on poverty line and its recent interpretations rename multi-dimensional poverty stands at 11.7 in India. Welfare assistance.

Poverty lies in eyes of beholder:- multiple perspectives of poverty:-

World Bank (Line at $2.15) = 21.7 emp pass basis

Sarin committee = on international requirement

Historical commission = caused pauperism

Tendinan Committee = 89.6/1,000 rural areas/urban area

Rangrajan Committee = varied dimensional poverty

Multi-dimensional poverty = 11.7 as per NITI Aayog

Need for credible and updated poverty estimation framework:-

1To ensure targeted programs =
2Rural poverty as vis-a-vis 11.7 peasant poverty
3Ruru inclusion & exclusion errors = great insurgence in PDS
4Holistic resolution of Poverty = multi-dimensional approach
5Rural data deficit for policymaking
6Highlight actual inequality = issued Gini coefficient
7Ensure basic needs to all = key updated record & on-ground policy implementation

How to develop such framework:-

1Integrating data from upcoming census
2Multi-dimensional approach to gain clear observation insight
3Digitization of data and analysis for poverty measure
4Taking standard of living, inflation etc. into account

This need help shift focus from Poverty line to Dignity Line as ensured by Ambedkar's Sen.
