Multidimensional Poverty involves a series of factors than just a single poverty line as prescribed by the UNDP. Despite India being faster growing major economy it hasn't been effective in reducing MPI.

Underlying causes of poverty in MPI:

1School dropouts persisting despite presence of high enrolment ratio. (ET) 60% dropout in secondary school.
2Attention to calorie hunger over nutrition. (ET) Maternal mortality rate at 86 in India.
3Unavailability of land to assets to large chunk of population, impacting quality of life. (ET) 90% population own land less than 1 acre.
4Institutional delivering has improved but still persists only at ~ 80%.
5Quality of education poor. (ET) AFER 2024 report shows 44% class 5 students can't read class 2 level text.
6Regional disparities in spread of economic development. (ET) Inadequate pure of development in urban areas over rural.

4Swachh Bharat Abhiyay to address sanitation of open defecation (ODF), 2019.
5PM-CHAs schools to provide impulse to schools to act as model schools.
6National education Policy (2020) improve quality of education.
7PM Faridhan Yojana - financial inclusion

Hence the government along with civil society needs to act to ensure HPI of India improved.
