Main Body

India has huge diversity of soil which also impacts variety of Agricultural crops.

Types of Soil:

1Alluvial Soil

└ largest group of soil

└ Soil deiments deposited by rivers on flood plains create it

└ very fertile.

[Diagram shows alluvial soil composition: Alluv(oil), clay soil, Black soil, Laterite soil, Desai soil, Red soil]

2Black soil

└ formed due to weathering of peccary rock

└ Self cultivating property.

3Red soil

└ formed in area of moderate rainfall

└ appears yellow in hydrated form

4Laterite soil

└ High temperature & high rainfall area.

5Desert soil

└ lowest rainfall area.

Significance in Agriculture:

└ Alluvial: wheat, rice, sugarcane etc.

└ Black soil: Cotton, Sunflower etc.

└ Laterite soil: tree crops & like Cashew nuts
